Mandatory microchipping
A bill passed in March by the Northern Ireland Assembly relating to dog control includes the compulsory microchipping of all dogs, in addition to the already compulsory dog licence. Three-legged Jack wins award
Working Border Collie Jack, who lost his right back leg in an serious accident last year, has won the Farm Dog of the Year award, run by the National Farmers Union (NFU). Farewell to Blue Peter dog Mabel
The BBC has announced that Mabel, one of the longest-serving Blue Peter pets, has died. Mabel, who was the first rescue dog to become a regular fixture on the show, retired from the programme in March 2010 after 14 years of broadcasting.
