A team of sailors from Faslane is set to brave the icy waters of Loch Lomond on Thursday 1 September, swimming over 22 miles in aid of the charity Canine Partners, which provides assistance dogs for people with disabilities. The dogs provide independence and companionship for their human partners and are trained to help with everyday tasks such as opening and shutting doors, unloading the washing machine and summoning help in an emergency.
The sailors, from First Mine Counter Measures Squadron (MCM1), will begin their marathon dip at Ardlui and finish hours later at Lomond Shores, Balloch.
Last year they ran and cycled over 13,000km, raising enough to pay for the first year of training for Golden Retriever puppy Xylo, above.
To make a donation to this year’s challenge visit www.justgiving.com/mcm1 or contact Lieutenant Alan Ainsworth on 07771 985 605.
