After extensive consultation with some of the UK’s animal and pet charities, Gumtree has made a significant number of changes to its ‘Pets for Sale’ category. It says that animal welfare is at the heart of the reason for changes.
To help protect animals, the site will share users’ details with law enforcement authorities should it be requested. And to help deter puppy farmers and breeders, no user is allowed to advertise more than two litters per year.
Gumtree is encouraging anyone who is suspicious of an advert to report it for investigation.
DM says: If you’re planning on getting a new dog, always buy from a reputable breeder to ensure you are not buying from a puppy farmer.
