My Doggy holiday in Wales pt 1

Postby Anna on Sun Jul 05, 2009 10:50 pm

Well I have just returned from a weeks holiday in Wales - Pembrokeshire with my boyfriend and two Jack Russells, Riley & Dylan.

We booked a week in a cottage which was a 16th Century watermill conversion, set in a small village 7 miles away from Cardigan bay. I found our cottage on the website westwalesholidaycottages.co.uk our cottage was booked from 20th June to 27th June and cost £300.

as you can see, although the cottage looked tiny, in was actually quite roomy inside.. twin bedroom upstairs and a double bedroom downstairs and 2 pets allowed :D

The first place we visited was 'St Davids' it was about 30 minute drive from our cottage, and it had a beach called 'Whitesands' beach, dogs arent allowed on this main part of the beach see below:

However you can see a ridge here that you can walk along and get a nice view.. take some photos..

but if you walk left off the ridge the beach behind Dave on the photo above is where you can take the dogs and it was wonderful, no one else was down there we had the beach to ourselves! And it was great as there were caves to explore and strange types of rocks and slate all different colours too. The dogs had fun running around and getting their feet wet!

We walked into St Davids after fun on the beach, had a walk around the cathedral and also had some lunch in the beer garden of one of the pubs, they served excellent Scampi & Chips, and were very dog friendly, even offering to bring the dogs a water bowl as it was around 28 degrees that day!

Image

We then travelled onto a little place called Abereiddy.. which was rather difficult to find as you had to guess where to turn off the main road by the map as there certainly werent any road signs! Thankfully we found it... and what a place it was! There was a pub, carpark, icecream van.. small pebbley beach.. but you need to walk past all that and up the hill to the right.. and then you will find the 'Blue Lagoon'

Then after looking at the blue lagoon, if you carry on walking along the cliffs you see views like this..

so we walked down to the beach coves and the doggys had a swim..

it was rather a nice beach! :D

anyways.. I got waay more to show you.. but will type that up probably tomorrow.. but I strongly recommend you visit Pembrokshire if you were wondering where to take you dogs on holiday with you as there are so many nice beaches and walks!

The cottage is 2 bedroomed, one large twin bedroom upstairs and a large double bedroom downstairs, I really miss this cottage! I most of all enjoyed listening to the sound of the stream that runs along side the cottage it was such a lovely place!

this is the website link to the cottage that I booked it on last year, a lady called christina hirst owns it with her husband (they have the cottage next door to it)..

awww you must post a photo up of your JRT! they are such cute and fun dogs, even though mine are fully grown now as they are 20 months old, we still get people saying 'awww puppies' when I walk past, people can't help themselves put try and pet them! when they were small puppies we got mobbed everywhere we went with them, I left my boyfriend outside a shop I wanted to look in with the two pups outside for about 5 minutes and by the time I came out I had to fight my way past a crowd of around 15 people to get to him as they had all stopped to coo at the dogs! unbelievable, I would never leave them unattended outside a shop in fear of someone stealing them lol!

this is a photo of Riley.. I think hes a model JRT lol fit to be on the front of a magazine! he could be a catwalk dog!

Image

Dylan is an unusual looking JRT as he has a dark head, although I did see his doppleganger at the Driffield show this year, a couple had two JRT females that were just about exactly the same markings as my two males no joking I was amazed!
