The RSPCA is calling for dog licences to be reintroduced in a new report released just days after 10-year-old Rhianna Kidd was attacked by two Rottweilers in Dundee. The charity says an annual licence fee of £21.50 could help reduce the number of strays and help tackle irresponsible dog owners – and calls on the government to establish a dog health and welfare strategy funded by a dog licence scheme.
On Tuesday, another 10-year-old girl, Toni Clannachan, was hospitalised after she was bitten in the face by a dog in Kilmarnock. Are dog licences the answer? Tell us what you think by clicking the link below…

Don’t panic!
Vets are warning against widespread concern and panic after press reports that there will be a significant threat of rabies to the UK when rules for pet travel are harmonised across Europe. In a letter to the Veterinary Record, Dr Paul Burr and his colleagues at the Biobest Laboratories, which carries out tests for rabies, warn against any relaxation of the current rules for animals entering the UK under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS).
